Zeta is here. It looks like I’ll be on the western side of it, so I’m not terribly worried. I’m wishing the best for all the Oppos south and east of me.

Where are you, Baton Rouge?

Maybe a stupid question, but are hurricanes supposed to make it all the way to Z?

Just south of Baton Rouge.

They went through all the names this year and started over again at alpha.

No. And actually there is no Z, it and a few other weird letters are skipped. But yeah we aren’t supposed to reach the end of the alphabet. This year though we did, and so have now started going through the Greek alphabet (Zeta is the 6th letter of the Greek alphabet). This year is tied with 2005 with 27 named storms .

Stupid question, isn’t it kind of late in the year for a hurricane?
![]() 10/28/2020 at 17:36 |

I’m sure that’s fine and not an indication of a larger problem.......

28 seems like a lot.

Another one? Seems like there is one a week this year.

Goddamn, again. Got a friend down there doing disaster relief.

It is, and the season doesn’t end until November 30.

We are definitely past peak, but hurricane season goes until the end of November.
Edit: I was curious so I looked up the last hurricane of each of the past 5 seasons:
2019: 10/28
2018: 10/31
2 017: 10/15
2016: 11/25
2015: 11/11
I don’t think any of those storms hit the US though.

Where? Most of my work is on the recovery side. I moved here after Katrina to do recovery work and didn’t leave.

Hi Buck! I didn’t know I had any fellow O ppos in Louisiana. Im in Slidell, and we’re just now starting to get some gusts. South E ast L ouisiana has dodged quite a few this season. We’ve been lucky. Not expecting any major issues at my house. Hope you’re staying safe and dry. Would be nice to meet up someday. I’m in baton rouge from time to time

Howdy! Several of live in the area, some further south, a few to the East. I’ll let them introduce themselves, but if you’re curious, you can probably figure out who they are. I think they’re enough of us to make a meetup feasible. I think it would be fun.

2020 WINNI NG AGAIN

So we’ve gone through all the alphabetized names and now we’re working on the entire Greek alphabet. Nothing to see here, move along.
This might explain all the out of state license plates I’m seeing in Austin these days. Not just from the Gulf states, though. Everywhere.
Y’all be safe.

It could certainly be fun! I like doing meetups. Not so much this year, but I usually hit a handful of cars&coffees, local meets, and car shows every year. Always a good time! I always enjoy seeing others projects too.

Oh it’s Buck? I always misread your name as Buick. I guess my brain knows it’s a car related blog and just connects the dots.

Not sure, hes working with the blue roofs

Hah! I’ve even misspelled it that way!

Blue roofs suggests blue tarps. I’d bet he’s over at Lake Charles. They had a lot of wind damage from Laura.

Cool! I spent 3 weeks in Slidell with the Red Cross in ‘95 after that particular flood . Confirmed my love of Cajun food. I don’t think my liver would survive a longer stint there.... Hope you’re all ok.
